Fairytale-Like Spanish Castles

Imagine centuries-old Moorish castles on hilltops of endless green. It would be like being in the middle of a fairytale.

This is the appeal that Spain is banking on to draw activity and tourism into its many provinces. The beaches of Spain have always been a magnet for foreigners, but today Spain is relying on the charm of its castles with all its history to encourage tourists to come and visit. Run by the government and absolutely luxurious, the Spanish flag is trying to attract a more cultured crowd.

Some of these castle hotels can be found in Castilla y Leon, which is the largest region in Spain. To complete the experience, get accommodated in Parador de Avila, Parador de Leon or Parador de Zamora. A night here is not only very comfortable but would allow you to get a feel of 16th-century Spain.

In Castilla y Leon, tourists get to visit close to two thousand castles. Some of them used to be structures primarily for defense; some were once home to nobles. The most visited castles in the region include La Mota, Peñafiel, Coca, Castillo de Valencia de Don Juan and the Castillo de Cuéllar.

Other than its fine castles, the quaint villages of Castilla y Leon alone are worth the trip. The streets are for pedestrians only, and they lead to open squares with historical monuments. The region is proudest of its reconstruction of the burned-down Alcazar, a castle built just as you imagine it. It stands proudly with its towers having been tagged a UNESCO World Heritage location.

Visit the castles of Spain, and experience the magic firsthand.
