Spanish Apartment Rentals on the Costa Tropical – Want to Know More About the Area?
Spanish apartment rentals or a holiday villa rental in Spain booked direct with the property owners are becoming increasingly popular on the Costa Tropical. Although it is not as well known as the neighbouring Costa del Sol, it has a lot to offer holidaymakers who want to book holiday villas in southern Spain and fancy somewhere a bit different. This area of southern Spain is mostly associated with the town that sits at its centre, Almunecar. The other main towns of note on the Costa Tropical are Motril, Salobrena and La Herradura.
Costa Tropical Weather
When thinking of booking Spanish apartment rentals or a holiday villa rental in Spain most holidaymakers want to know what sort of weather to expect. A great many northern Europeans book their Spanish holiday villas to rent because they know that sunshine is virtually guaranteed in the summer months. If you choose Costa Tropical for your summer holiday you will not be disappointed by the weather. The Costa Tropical has perfect holiday weather for the vast majority of the year and at sea level the region has average temperatures of 86 degrees Fahrenheit during the summer months and 59 – 68 degrees Fahrenheit during the winter months. However temperatures drop significantly at altitude, so if you are staying inland above sea level, bear in mind that temperatures there can be significantly cooler.
Almunecar and La Herradura
Almunecar is probably the most popular place to rent holiday villas in southern Spain on the Costa Tropical. It is a favourite with Spanish holidaymakers during the summer season and has a particularly fine seafront with long sandy beaches. The mountains slope right down to the water creating a series of picturesque coves providing ideal places to relax in the Andalusian sun. An impressive Moorish castle overlooks the town and there are other historical remains to explore like the ruins of the Roman aqueduct, some parts of which are still in excellent condition. Almunecar’s nightlife is centred on the old town’s Plaza Kelibia and the bars along Playa Puerta del Mar. If you are staying in self-catering Spanish apartment rentals there are several excellent restaurants along the seafront. La Herradura is a small village about 7km to the west of Almunecar and has an attractive bay. It is a popular location for paragliding because of the warm breezes which rise up into the hills.
Motril
If you book your Spanish apartment rentals or holiday villa rental in Spain in Motril you will find it nestling at the foothills of the Sierra Lujar Mountains just off the coast road between Almeria and Malaga where the N325 turns inland for Granada. It is one of the largest towns on the Costa Tropical and has lovely beaches and an attractive fish harbour. If you are in self-catering accommodation there is a hypermarket on the edge of the town and many handy supermarkets and restaurants. You cam enjoy a variety of watersports at the marina and if you are feeling adventurous there are boat excursions available to Morocco.
Salobrena
Salobrena is a charming town full of typical little square whitewashed houses clustered around a hill which is topped by an old Moorish castle. From the summit of the hill there are panoramic views to the Sierra Nevada, the Mediterranean sea and the lush lowlands of Salobrena, where sub-tropical fruits are grown. Holiday villas in southern Spain and Spanish apartment rentals are available to rent in this picturesque location which has plenty of facilities for visitors. There are good sports facilities if you are feeling energetic including Golf at Motril beach. It has a good range of quality restaurants for those who are self-catering and fancy a night off. Salobrena is perfect as a holiday base as it is within easy reach of Malaga and Almeria and close to the city of Granada and the ski resorts of the Sierra Nevada.
Granada and the Sierra Nevada
When staying in Spanish apartment rentals on the Costa Tropical many people take a trip to the city of Granada to explore its ancient Moorish origins including the famous Alhambra Palace. Have a wander round this fascinating city and relax over drinks in one of Granada’s terrace cafes or watch a traditional bullfight at the Plaza de Toros. Another major tourist attraction in this area is the Sierra Nevada which is Spain’s most southerly ski resort and is located just two hours away from the Costa Tropical. Most people only associate Spain with coastal resorts and are surprised to find that Spain also offers a wide range of winter sports. The ski resort is open from 9am to 5pm although you can even ski at night on weekends and bank holidays!
