Costa Del Sol Tour
The tourism has changed a lot since then but undoubtedly the Costa del Sol is a unique destination in the world.
With over 300 days of sunshine, an average annual temperature of 20 degrees, the best facilities in all respects, golf, restaurants, hotels and beaches and the sympathy of the people, the Costa del Sol remains one of the most sought after destinations.
Although the Costa del Sol takes up much more, lets take a trip today from Malaga to La Linea, the border town next to Gibraltar, on the western Costa del Sol.
Malaga is a good starting point, from Calle Larios, the Port Avenue, the Moorish castle Gibralfaro and the charming streets in the historic center. From there we continue southwest with the sun on the left in the morning and views over the Mediterranean Sea.
Passing by the Airport Malaga we immediately reach Torremolinos
Torremolinos has witnessed the explosion of tourism in the area in the 50s, and has remained a reference point since then. It is impossible to miss the appointment to lunch at La Carihuela and eat the typical fried fish, ham, olives and a good white wine, a Barbadillo for example.
As we travel along the Costa del Sol and look closely around us, we easily find vivid memories of history in the watchtowers that still stand along the coast. From the Arab Times, the Spanish Mediterranean coast had observation and surveillance towers in privileged places due to their strategic location.
The Costa del Sol has given value to the lookout towers and which we can find on our way, as we enjoy its beaches this summer.
We continue southwest to Benalmadena
The Benalmadena marina is spectacular, romantic and seductive, with a lot of nightlife and good food like along the entire coast. The Moorish Torre Quebrada is situated between The Hotel and the Casino Torrequebrada in Benalmadena.
Close to the suburban train station Torremuelle between Benalmadena and Fuengirola is situated Torre Muelle, which has its origins in a roman dock.
Fuengirola has a huge sandy beach and a small Arab castle at the end of what is the longest sea promenade in Spain.
Mijas Costa also has very good beaches but another development concept, with pines and mountain. Mijas Pueblo is a typical Andalusian white village and definitely worth a visit with completely different an air only a few kilometres away from the coast. In Cala de Mijas is situated the Torre de la Bateria in the town centre.
Near the lighthouse in Mijas we find the Torre de Calaburras. An exit in the national road N-340 points the access to the lighthouse and from there is walkway to the tower.
The Arabian Torre de Calahonda is located on private property facing the sea on the beach in Calahonda, between Mijas and Marbella.
Almost at the entrance to Marbella, passing the Royal River and its beautiful golf course that reaches the sea in one of the most exclusive areas, lies the Torre Real. Take the exit for Torre Real at the national road N-340, which brings us the base from where to enjoy the views.
And we arrived to the jewel of the Mediterranean, Marbella, the luxury tourist destination par excellence. Puerto Banus is one of the best known and most visited Marinas by the most luxurious and expensive yachts in the world.
The Torre de los Ladrones is located next to the dunes on the beach Cabopino in Marbella. It is the highest watchtower on the Malaga coast, with a height of 16 metres. This beacon served to the Arabs and Christians to monitor the costs and dates from 1497.
From there we travel further west to Benahavis and Estepona with more than 20 kilometres of beach, the white village of Casares in the mountains, Manilva, San Roque and La Linea de la Concepcion, which borders with Gibraltar. Enjoy a good trip along the Costa del Sol!
